I've been investing in the stock market for 20 years and found the book a practical help to understanding the cycles, which govern the ups and down of market value. It's clearly and logically written for the retail and professional investor alike, without a lot of unnecessary Wallstreet jargon. If taken to heart, the advice in this book can undoubtedly help the investor to avoid loosing money and to make a reasonable profit on the stock market.

Having read more or less everything that Howard Marks has written I ordered his newest book with great anxiety. To be honest, I'm a bit disappointed. The book doesn't really offer any new or suprising insights. A lot of it is a mere repetition of his previous notes and his latest book. For non-professional investors it offers some nice insights, but for pros there are better sources of inspiration.

Its great to read how Howard Marks, one of the great investors of our time thinks about market cycles. As a investor you can learn a lot from his long term experience and his ideas about adopting the portfolio to where we stand in the cycle. However, I think that you can learn a lot more from reading his first book "The most Important Thing", as it covers all the different aspects of investing, not only one.
