Enrica Rocca, known as the Cooking Countess, is the founder of a cooking school acclaimed by Gourmet magazine as one of the top ten in the world. She was born into an aristocratic family in Venice that taught her how to appreciate, understand, and celebrate food. After high school, she decided to follow her passion for cooking and attended the prestigious hotel management school in Lausanne. She has not looked back since and has lived in Switzerland, Sudan, South Africa, London, and finally Venice again.

Enrica Rocca, the well-known "cooking contessa", provides readers with from very helpful, easy-to-follow tips (e.g. how to make stock with shrimp heads and tails, why water for boiling pasta should be salty just like the Mediterranean sea.) to more in-depth skills needed to prepare parties or Venetian banquets. We just ate our way through Italy, trying chefs and their cookbooks throughout Tuscany, Naples and the Veneto, and this was our favorite. Enrica makes it simple but delicious, so you aren't scared off from cooking the way she does -- great ingredients, "putting your finger in to taste things -- a cook should always taste with her fingers!" -- and making the presentation beautiful. This is a book you can really cook from, and OMG, what a gift for a foodie friend because every dish is photographed with the most gorgeous Italian glassware! excellent book with extremely authentic and simple recipes---I only wish we had the type of seafood that Enrica has available to her in Venice!The icing on the cake is that we have a private class scheduled with Enrica in October and will surely have her autograph my copy---VERY EXCITED!! I would definitely buy this book if you've ever been to Venice or hope to go---book is worth every penny--even if you don't cook, the pictures alone are gorgeous and worth the price of admission!!
